Made with Care in Scottsburg, Indiana — From Our Yard to Yours
Hey there, neighbors! We’re so glad you stopped by. At Yard Art Decor and More, everything we make is handcrafted with heart right here in Southern Indiana. Before you place a custom order, we want to make sure we're on the same page. Below, you’ll find a few friendly notes on what we do (and don’t do) when it comes to custom yard signs.
What We Can and Can’t Create
We pour our time, creativity, and care into every piece. Our style is bold, cheerful, and family-friendly — the kind of signs that make people say "WOW" and smile when they drive by your house!
What We Do:
-
Holiday & seasonal yard signs (Christmas, Easter, Fall, 4th of July—you name it!)
-
Custom family signs with names or dates
-
Wholesome, upbeat designs that fit our bright and happy style
What We Don’t Do:
Quality You Can Feel
Our signs aren’t mass-produced or flimsy. Each one is made from ½” Medium Density Overlay (MDO) — that’s an outdoor-grade plywood designed to stand strong through Indiana’s wild seasons. Whether it’s snow, sun, or a gusty day, your sign is made to last.
Every piece comes with a green-coated steel stake on the back so you can place it proudly in your front yard.
Many of our customers have had their signs out for over 10 years — and they still look great.
Our Sparkling Christmas Finish
There’s nothing quite like Christmas in the Midwest, and we go the extra mile for our holiday pieces. Our signature three-step glitter finish includes:
-
A base of clear weatherproof sealant
-
A hand-blended silver + clear glitter coat (it twinkles just right)
-
A protective topcoat so your sparkle stays strong
It’s eye-catching without being too flashy — and it’ll stay that way season after season.
Common Questions
Can you recreate this design I found online?
We love inspiration, but we won’t directly copy licensed or copyrighted work. Instead, we’ll take your ideas and make something fresh in our own style.
How long does a custom order take?
Everything’s made to order here at our workshop in Scottsburg, not shipped from a warehouse. We’ll give you an estimated turnaround time when you reach out.
Why Standard Cardboard/Poster Board Is the Worst for Yard Signs:
-
Not Weatherproof:
Cardboard absorbs water, warps, and disintegrates quickly in rain, snow, or humidity — basically, any outdoor conditions. -
Zero UV Resistance:
It fades fast under sunlight and becomes brittle over time. -
Easily Damaged:
It bends, tears, or flops over with even light wind. The fibers break down quickly. -
No Structural Support:
It doesn’t hold up well with stakes unless heavily reinforced, which defeats the purpose of using it as a “quick” or “cheap” option.
Bonus Runner-Up Worst Material:
Foam board (like foamcore used for indoor displays or presentations) may look sturdy, but it melts, bubbles, or warps under heat, absorbs moisture, and crumbles in cold temperatures — a terrible match for Midwest weather.
Better Alternatives (and Recommend):
-
½” MDO (Medium Density Overlay plywood): Our favorite — strong, weather-resistant, built to last.
-
Coroplast (for temporary signs): Lightweight corrugated plastic often used for political or real estate signs. Not as classy or long-lasting as wood, but better than cardboard for short-term use.
