Setting Up for Success: The Ultimate Guide to Assembling Your Yard Art Decor and More Sign
Hey there! Whether you’re a neighbor right here in Scottsburg or part of our growing community of friends across the country, we’re so glad to have you as part of the Yard Art Decor and More family.
You’ve got the vision, you’ve got the brand, and now you’ve got the heavy-duty signage to show it off. We take a lot of pride in sending out professional-grade tools that are built to last. While some signs use thin wire stakes that can struggle in a breeze, we include a rugged green channel stake system with our kits. It’s designed to be sturdy, reliable, and ready for whatever the weather throws its way.
Whether you're prepping for a busy seasonal rush or establishing a permanent presence with personalized outdoor signs, getting that installation just right ensures your sign stays looking sharp for years to come.
Follow these simple steps from Bruce and Mary to get your sign standing tall!
Step 1: Precision Prep for a Professional Look
First things first, find yourself a nice flat, clean surface. Place your sign down with the face (the side with your beautiful custom artwork) facing up.
-
Insert the Hardware: Take the supplied screws and insert them into the pre-drilled holes on the face of the sign.
-
The Helpful Hint: You’ll want to grab a Phillips head screwdriver or a drill for this part. We intentionally drill these holes a little small here at Yard Art Decor and More to ensure a tight, "wobble-free" fit. It’s meant to be a bit snug so everything stays nice and secure once it’s out in the elements!
Step 2: Align the Green Channel Stake
Once those screws are all the way through, flip the sign face-down. You should see about 1 inch of the screw poking out from the back.
-
The Perfect Fit: Lay your green channel stake over the screws. Best practice is to use the top hole of the stake for the top screw of the sign.
-
Secure the Base: Once the stake is laying nice and flush against the back of the sign, screw on the supplied nuts and give 'em a good tighten.
-
Check Your Clearances: You’ll want to have roughly 14" to 16" of stake sticking out below the sign. This ensures it's high enough for folks to see and deep enough to stay put.

Sometimes it’s just easier to see it in action! We put together this quick video to show you exactly how the screws and channel stake fit together. It’s a great way to see how that "snug fit" looks before you head out to the yard.
Step 3: Into the Ground (The Right Way)
When you’re ready to place your sign, you can leave the hammer in the toolbox! Please do not hit the top of your sign. We want your holiday yard signs and decorations to stay looking brand new, and hitting them can be a bit too rough on the material.
-
Use Your Body Weight: Our green channel stake has a handy crossbar designed to act as a foot peg.
-
Step to It: Put on a pair of firm-soled shoes, place your foot on that crossbar, and use your body weight to push the stake into the ground. It’s much easier on the sign (and your back!).
Step 4: Mastering the Seasons (Nationwide Tips)
We ship our signs all over the USA, which means we know the ground can be a challenge—from the frozen Midwest winters to the baked clay of the South. If the earth feels like concrete, don't you worry.
-
The Soak Method: If the ground is rock hard, just grab the garden hose and soak the area for a little while. Once the ground softens up, that green channel stake will slide right in like a breeze.
-
Depth Matters: We usually like to get the bottom 8 inches into the ground—that puts the crossbar right at the edge of the grass. If the ground is being stubborn, just try to get at least 5 or 6 inches deep so it stays sturdy through the wind and weather.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do you install a yard sign in hard or frozen ground? If the ground is dry or frozen, use the "Soak Method." Pour water over the installation area and let it sit for a few minutes to soften the earth. This allows the heavy-duty channel stake to slide in easily without damaging the sign.
What is the best way to secure a yard sign against high winds? Instead of thin wire stakes, use a steel green channel stake system. For maximum stability, ensure the stake is driven at least 6 to 8 inches into the ground using your body weight on the stake's built-in crossbar.
Should I use a hammer to install my yard art? No, you should avoid hitting the top of the sign with a hammer as it can damage the material. Use a crossbar foot peg and your body weight to push the stake into the soil safely.
How much of the sign stake should be underground? For a secure fit, we recommend leaving 14" to 16" of the stake visible below the sign, with at least 8 inches driven into the ground to ensure it stays upright through wind and snow.
